Excavation Mode ™
A Bigger Firebox Without Carrying a Bigger Stove
Traditional ultralight tent stoves are limited by the size of the firebox you carry into the backcountry. The Pyro Rock Stove changes that.

With Excavation Mode™, a shallow bowl-shaped pit can be dug beneath the stove, allowing the ground itself to become part of the combustion chamber. This patent pending concept dramatically increases usable firebox volume and allows allows the earth to become like a thermal battery without adding a single ounce to your pack.

The result is a larger and more versatile burn chamber capable of accommodating bigger fuel loads, larger wood splits, and deeper coal beds than would normally be possible in an ultralight stove of this weight class. The earth walls insulate and allow users to bank fires and coal beds for much longer than other ultralight stoves.
Why It Matters
More Burn Volume
-
Increase total combustion chamber capacity by utilizing the space beneath the stove. Create a larger fire without carrying a larger stove.
Longer Burn Times
-
Larger fuel loads can produce longer-lasting fires and more substantial coal beds. Spend less time processing wood into small pieces.
Bigger Wood
-
Burn larger diameter rounds and longer splits that would not fit in many traditional ultralight stoves. Less chopping, splitting, and preparation in camp.
Adjustable Capacity
-
Dig deeper when conditions allow for maximum capacity. Use the stove on the ground surface when a pit is unnecessary. Customize the burn chamber size to fit your needs.
Ground Insulation
-
The ground acts similar to a thermal battery. It absorbs heat and gives it back slowly. This results in a more consistent burn temperature. You also do not have hot coals sitting directly on the titanium stove which can anneal the titanium over time. The ground also acts as insulation for the fire and coal bed which has been proven to be a reliable source to bank coals for thousands of years.
Less Ash to Empty
-
Excavation mode allows you to dig a pit. The combustion is so efficient it will burn most seasoned wood to a fine ash. This ash will not need to be emptied for many days in most cases due to the excavated pit.
More Efficient Cooking
-
The lower pit keeps coals hot and glowing for much longer. Excavation mode makes it even easier to cook directly on the coals. it is easy to fit a toaks style pot or small 6 inch titanium pan inside the stove for easy cooking. You can also wrap things in tin foil and cook directly on top of the coals. Though not essential the dug pit makes cooking even easier and more efficient.
